Nigeria | Lagos Urban WASH (LUWASH)
Activity Description
The USAID-funded Lagos Urban WASH Activity (LUWASH) seeks to expand and improve urban WASH service delivery and infrastructure in Lagos, a densely populated Nigerian city with rapidly growing urban and peri-urban areas and over 200 informal settlements that pose unique challenges for water supply access. These challenges are exacerbated by poor performance of existing water utilities, inadequate public financing, insufficient water infrastructure, and lack of revenue generation. The lack of access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services limits development and quality of life across Lagos State.
Activity Objectives
- Strengthen governance and institutional arrangements to deliver improved WASH services
- Improve public and private service provider performance
- Increase access to safe and sustainable water services
- Increase household access to safe and sustainable sanitation and improve the quality of source water
Through collaboration with local government, civil society, and private sector partners, LUWASH aims to increase the availability, quality, and use of safe water and sanitation services and improve the sustainable management of WASH sector institutions in Lagos.
