This case study examines the experiences of sanitation enterprises that were supported by the WaterAid Sustainable Total Sanitation (STS) intervention in Nigeria. The study is part of research addressing enterprise viability and sustainability questions, for which the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Partnerships and Learning for Sustainability (WASHPaLS) project conducted retrospective studies in partnership with mature market-based sanitation (MBS) programs in Nigeria, as well as Cambodia and India (state of Bihar).
It presents research findings and recommendations directed at MBS program implementers to help improve the viability and sustainability of the sanitation enterprises they support.
