Kenya | Sustainable, Transformational, and Accessible WASH Interventions (STAWI)

Activity Description

USAID/Kenya’s Sustainable, Transformational, and Accessible Water Interventions (STAWI) applies an inclusive and integrated approach to building resilience and expanding economic opportunities through investments in water security in targeted northern and southeastern counties (Garissa, Isiolo, Kitui, Makueni, Marsabit, Samburu, Taita Taveta, Turkana, and Wajir). 

Activity Objectives

  • Improve governance of water resources and service  
  • Increase sustainability of water service delivery, both rural and urban 
  • Improve management, efficiency, and equitable access to water used for productive purposes  
  • Improve collaboration and learning across stakeholders and strengthen the capacity of county governments for learning and adaptation

STAWI works alongside county officials, local businesses, and civil society—particularly women, girls, and youth—in advocating for sustainable water services for productive use, protecting watersheds, improving water resource management, developing and implementing policies and plans, providing technical training and business development services, and building local capacity for collaboration, learning, and adaptation.
