Activity Description

USAID’s Improved Access to Safe Drinking Water in Liberia Activity works with national, county, and local government institutions and water service providers to improve service delivery of good quality, reliable, and safe water services. The Activity will result in 20 WASH sector institutions strengthened to manage water supply services, and at least 100,000 people gaining access to basic drinking water services in Montserrado and Margibi counties.

Activity Objectives

  • Support local government institutions to effectively plan, budget, and oversee water service delivery
  • Develop, promote and advocate for decentralized governance processes in the planning, operations and management of water service delivery at the county level
  • Ensure equitable and inclusive water service delivery, including provision of first time and improved access to individuals in Montserrado and Margibi County
  • Promote and encourage the adoption of key water use behaviors among households
  • Promote inclusion of marginalized citizen groups in decision-making processes related to water service delivery within the decentralized operational framework.

The activity uses a phased capacity-building approach to mobilize key stakeholders, including the private sector and civil society, to collaboratively address both challenges that prevent more responsive and decentralized management of critical water resources, and improve and expand equitable, sustainable pay-for-use water services.
