Activity Description

Despite its abundant water resources, Senegal faces enormous water security challenges. A growing population, increasing urbanization rates, and expanding agricultural production strain freshwater resources while sea level rise, temperature increases, and erratic rainfall undermine the availability and quality of water. The USAID Senegal Water Resources Management (WRM) Activity is a four-year activity aimed at increasing inclusive economic growth through improved and more equitable management of water resources for present and future generations.

The Activity will strengthen the capacity of actors within Senegal’s water sector to operationalize climate resilient integrated water resources management (IWRM), bringing together multiple uses and users to support sustainable and inclusive land and water management systems to conserve ecosystem services and functions while promoting viable livelihoods. Implemented by Chemonics International with the Centre de Suivi Ecologique and DECLIC, the activity seeks to support institutions, notably the Direction de la Gestion et de la Planification des Ressources en Eau (Directorate of Water Resources Management and Planning), to advance actions on IWRM.
