Ethiopia: Improving WASH Evidence-Based Decision-Making

Summary

Improving WASH Evidence-Based Decision-Making (IWED) is a program under Water for Africa through Leadership and Institutional Support (WALIS) that supports demand-driven initiatives identified by selected national WASH focal agencies in sub-Saharan Africa to foster better WASH policies, strategies, and decision-making.

The IWED Ethiopia program worked with Ethiopia’s Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Electricity (MOWIE) to improve WASH sector knowledge management (KM) from the regional to national level through: development of KM protocols, procedures and guidelines; establishment of proper KM infrastructure; and a pilot project with the Oromia Water and Energy Resources Development Bureau (OWERDB) to train staff in using the new KM systems.
