Small Village Wastewater Treatment Systems (SVWTS) Phase II – Final Report

Summary

This final report outlines the activities and Small Village Wastewater Treatment Systems (SVWTS) Phase II project in Lebanon (October 2005–July 2012).

SVWTS identified municipalities and unions of municipalities in the West and North Bekaa regions. Municipalities, rather than the Water Establishments, were seen as the target government institutions that had the means to operate and maintain the constructed facilities to the benefit of their constituents. The Government of Lebanon and the participating municipalities were engaged in the project through Memoranda of Understanding that described the responsibilities and duties of the signatories.

Phase I of the project (October 2004 - November 2005) was the facility design phase where alternative infrastructure configurations that met the design criteria were compared and a final design selected.
