2021 Global Waters Year in Review

Summary

As the effects of COVID-19 continued to reverberate around the world in 2021, USAID ramped up its response to expand critical water and sanitation access for millions of people worldwide. Through research and data collection, USAID was able to identify specific impacts of the pandemic on WASH access in high priority countries and adapt its response accordingly.

Meanwhile, USAID continued to advance its goals across the sector in areas like menstrual health and hygiene, gender equality, climate, sanitation and hygiene, and knowledge sharing. USAID had a large presence at global conferences such as Stockholm World Water Week and COP26, engaging audiences in discussions about crisis response, climate, gender, and more. The FY 2020 Water and Development Report captures USAID’s most important advances in the water sector throughout the year and audiences can now engage with the data in the new interactive results map on GlobalWaters.org.
