The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2019

The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2019 was jointly prepared by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the World Food Programme (WFP) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

This is the third annual edition reaffirms our commitment to working together to overcome these emerging challenges and free the world from hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition.

Integrated Agriculture-Health Based Initiative

Approximately one-fourth of Bangladeshis have limited availability, access to and consumption of adequate quantities of nutritious food the year round. Given the fact that food quantity and quality have the most direct links between agriculture, food security and health, investments need to be enhanced in agriculture so that small farmers, particularly women, can make a significant contribution to improve household food security and nutrition. Over the past 15 years, the decline in child undernutrition, particularly stunting,- has not kept pace with the decline in poverty.

Balochistan Agriculture Project

BAP is the third phase of a 10-year agricultural development project that evolved through a pilot phase focused on community development and food security, to a second phase focused on increasing surpluses and connecting farmers to markets, to a third phase that emphasized transitioning beneficiary farmers to commercially oriented business enterprises.
