Marketing Innovations for Health

The goal of the Marketing Innovations for Health (MIH) Project, supported by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), is to “Contribute to sustained improvements of the health status of women and children in Bangladesh by increasing access to and demand for essential health products and services through the private sector.” Project funding includes $15.0 million in federal cash funds, provision of contraceptive commodities expected to generate $2.2 million for program use, and $112.3 million in cost share.

SHIKHA

Malnutrition among pregnant women and children less than two years old is a major public health concern in Bangladesh. In order to improve the maternal diet practice and to reduce under-nutrition among children less than two years old, the SHIKHA project has been designed and implemented in the Feed the Future zone of Bangladesh in 26 sub-districts of Barisal and Khulna Divisions. The project designed a multi-faceted program, consisting of home visits, health forums, social mobilization, and a mass-media campaign.

NGO Health Service Delivery Project

NHSDP is the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)/Bangladesh’s largest health initiative; this flagship project is the latest in a series of programs going back to at least 1998 that have sought to improve the ability of local NGOs to provide basic health services to the poor. NHSDP was designed in 2012, when USAID was implementing significant procurement reforms and emphasizing the need to work more directly with local organizations.

Empowering Communities for Health

Cambodia is establishing statutory structures at the commune, district and province level, including Committees for Women and Children at all three levels, to instill greater government accountability in protecting the rights of children and women. D&D is rolling out in the coming years with the goal of increasing local accountability and management of health sector resources.

Feed the Future Senegal Yaajeende

The food security situation in Senegal in 2013, illustrated by the Global Hunger Index (GHI) score of 13.8, was characterized by the International Food Policy Institute (IFPRI) as “serious.” 2 This situation is all the more serious in that, at 13.7 in 2005, the country’s GHI score has remained unchanged for nearly a decade. Food insecurity in Senegal affects between 15.6 and 24 percent of the population, with higher numbers concentrated in the northern and eastern rural regions.

Partnership for Integrated Social Marketing

Contaminated water is a leading cause of diarrheal disease and child mortality in Zambia, where only 64% of the population has access to safe drinking water sources. Among children under five, 21% have had diarrhea in the past two weeks, regardless of water source or location. Mortality among children under five is particularly high, as attempts to rehydrate children, usually with more contaminated water, often fail.

Communications Support for Health

The Government of the Republic of Zambia (GRZ), through the Ministry of Health (MOH), has committed to achieving Millennium Development Goal targets by improving the quality of health care services and providing greater and equitable access to health care for its people. To support these objectives, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is providing GRZ with technical assistance to strengthen national health communications activities.

Zambia Integrated Systems Strengthening Project

The Zambia Integrated Systems Strengthening Program (ZISSP) was a four-and-a-half year USAID-funded, Abt Associates-led project which increased the use of quality, high-impact health services through a health systems strengthening approach in Zambia.

Integrated Health Project

The five-year IHP supported the DRC’s National Health Development Plan (Plan National de Développement Sanitaire (PNDS), MSP, 2011–2015). The IHP’s main goal was to improve the enabling environment for and increase the availability and use of high-impact services, products, and practices for family planning (FP), maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH), nutrition, malaria, and tuberculosis (TB), Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS), and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) in target health zones (HZs).
