FARARANO

Fararano is a five-year, USAID FOod for Peace Development Food Assistance program whose goal is to reduce food insecurity in 48 communes in three of the most vulnerable regions in Madagascar: Atsinanana, Vatovavy, Fitovinany, and Atsimo Andrefana. The program provides an integrated package of nutrition, agriculture, disaster risk reduction, environment and gender-focused activities to reduce food insecurity in these target areas.

ADRA DRC Jenga Jamaa Final Evaluation, Eastern DRC MYAP

This report is an evaluation of Jenga Jamaa,  a Multi-Year Assistance Program carried out over a three-year period (June 2008–May 2011) and implemented by the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) International. It ipartnered with Africare under a cooperative agreement to reduce food insecurity among vulnerable populations in Fizi and Uvira territories in South Kivu province of the eastern Democratic Republic Congo (DRC).

Securing Water for Food: FutureWater Evaluation Thirdeye Project in Mozambique

FutureWater’s ThirdEye was a SWFF-supported infrared flying sensors project that created a group of flying sensors operators equipped with tools to analyze near infrared imagery in order to help farmers to make better decisions concerning the use of their limited resources, such as water, seeds and fertilizers. This report analyses the results obtained by the monitoring and evaluation field intern who conducted an evaluation survey in July and August 2018 in Mozambique, after the project had been active there for 3 years.

Mid-Term Evaluation: Tajikistan Agriculture and Water Activity (TAWA)

The purpose of the mid-term performance evaluation of the Tajikistan Agriculture and Water Activity (TAWA), a Feed the Future (FTF) activity, was to compare what had been accomplished against intended results, including any management, financial, and cost-efficiency findings. TAWA, funded by USAID/Central Asia, is a four-and-a-half-year program (2016–2020) designed to improve the nutritional outcomes of women of reproductive age and children under the age of two by increasing the yields and economic returns of household plots in Khatlon region.

Utilizing Solar Energy for Water Pumping and Brackish Water Desalination in Agriculture

Increasing demand for agricultural crops has put an increased strain on limited freshwater resources in Jordan and Palestine. The area currently has shortages in freshwater and an abundant supply of saline water which has not been utilized for agriculture due to the economics associated with pumping and desalinization mainly from limited availability to electricity and high running cost of the alternative diesel generators.

Food and water security are deeply entwined. Seventy percent of global water use is for agriculture while more than 25 percent of the global population lives in areas facing severe water scarcity and more than 820 million people face chronic food deprivation. As the global population continues to rise and changing weather and climate patterns disrupts food and water availability, we need innovative and forward-looking approaches to securing food and water for vulnerable populations.
