Cagayan de Oro Water District Non-Revenue Water (NRW) Reduction Program

The Cagayan de Oro Water District (COWD) launched its Non-Revenue Water (NRW) Reduction Program in Cagayan de Oro City on January 13, with the presence of representatives from the Department of Public Works and Highways, USAID Philippines, and the Coca Cola Foundation. The program was developed in efforts to reduce water losses and control leaks, and improve and extend water supply and services to more people. USAID, through its Be Secure Project is supporting the program by:

• providing technical expertise through the development of a Geographical Information System (GIS) database and hydraulic model of the network within the COWD service area; delineation and assistance with the initial implementation of district metering areas (DMAs);
• development of standard operating procedures for NRW management; and
• training of COWD personnel in the management, maintenance, and analysis of information in the GIS database, hydraulic model, and on managing NRW.

The Coca-Cola Foundation is funding the GIS support, and COWD itself is implementing the program through a grant from the Philippine Government. The program is expected to help increase COWD's water supply service to 24 hours per day and benefit 400,000 people.
