Even in areas that have made significant strides in achieving area-wide sanitation, challenges persist in effectively leaving no one behind. To ensure that all people have access to safely managed sanitation services, service implementation must identify and reach disadvantaged, vulnerable, and marginalized populations and individuals.
India has significantly increased access to sanitation in recent years, but gaps remain, especially among castes and tribes that suffer disproportionately from poverty or populations otherwise disadvantaged in their ability to access sanitation services, such as people living with disabilities.
