SWS Network Analysis and Systems Assessment For Sustainability in the Rural Sanitation and Hygiene Sector in Cambodia

Summary

This research report examines the relationship between network actors in Cambodia’s Rural Sanitation and Hygiene (RuSH) sector. Sustainable WASH Systems partner and Cambodian NGO WaterSHED, in collaboration with LINC, conducted this analysis in an effort to align actors to reach the national government’s clear vision for 2025 that “every person in rural communities has access to safe water supply and sanitation services and lives in a hygienic environment.” This analysis aims to generate a common understanding, leading to more coordinated actions between NGOs, government departments, private sector, and other actors in the sector. This study reveals missed opportunities between actors, such as low engagement between woman-run organizations, and which central actors have the potential to improve collaboration across the sector. By providing the sector with ownership of and insights from information gathered about the state of the system within which they operate, this study provides context for interventions that can improve the sustainability of rural sanitation and hygiene.
