Health for Life

In spite of its mountainous Himalayan terrain and high rates of poverty, Nepal has experienced two decades of steady improvement in health and emerged as one of the few countries to meet the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to reduce child and maternal mortality. For over 60 years, the U.S. Government has partnered with Nepal to strengthen the delivery of essential health services, especially for those in greatest need.

Activity

PEPAM (Programme Eau Potable et Assainissement)/ Millennium Water and Sanitation program

As in many West Africa countries, the availability of water governs the conditions of life for Senegal's rural population. For years, these conditions have trapped the population in a cycle of poverty and disease.

Leadership, Empowerment, Advocacy, and Development Project

Corruption remains the bane of good governance in Nigeria. Poor governance has impoverished the Nigerian masses, created a gulf between the haves and have-nots, and completely eroded the provision of basic social services including education, healthcare, and economic infrastructure. State and local governments that are responsible for the provision of these services are neither equipped nor prepared to carry out their responsibilities. Citizens lack the capacity to articulate their needs or hold their government accountable.
