Global economies are faced with the worsening impacts of climate change. Countries all over the world, including developing ones like the Philippines, are searching for a balanced solution that sustains robust economic growth while maintaining resource efficiency and economic resilience while reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

Litani River Basin Management Support Project

The Litani River Basin suffers the fate of many river basins around the world: increasing demands compete for limited natural resources. Groundwater over-exploitation, deforestation and overgrazing, unplanned urban sprawl, untreated wastewater effluents, and unsustainable agricultural practices contribute to environmental degradation in the form of declining water and soil quality. Solutions do exist to reverse these trends and establish sustainable management practices.

Institutional Strengthening and Support Program

Jordan is one of the most water-scarce countries in the world. Rapid population growth coupled with economic development needs places huge strain on already limited water supplies. The added burden of a large refugee influx has caused water demand to rise more than 20% in just three years. While Jordan is a regional leader in areas of water management including reuse, water quality and level of service, the water sector remains in crisis. Water sector institutions struggle to meet ever-growing demand for sufficient and safe water, and groundwater extraction exceeds sustainable supply.

Activity

The Water and Development IDIQ

The Water and Development IDIQ (WADI) will support USAID missions, bureaus, and other operating units in implementing USAID’s Water and Development Strategy. Task orders implemented through this IDIQ will reflect the Agency’s strategic direction in the water sector, including improving health outcomes through the provision of sustainable water, sanitation, and hygiene and managing agricultural water sustainably and more productively to enhance food security.
