Activity Description

The Watershed Protection for Safe and Sustainable Water Supply Activity aims to increase water security and resilience of 137 communities and ecosystems that depend upon the Cross River Watershed in Cross River State and the Pai River Watershed in Bauchi State.

Activity Objectives

  • Improve availability of safe drinking water and gender-responsive sanitation facilities
  • Ensure local communities and civil society organizations are engaged in the management of their natural resources and watersheds
  • Provide opportunities for economically viable and sustainable livelihoods
  • Ensure that protected areas serve as anchor institutions that maintain critical ecosystem services.

Through this Activity, USAID will strengthen long-term access to safe drinking water and reduce levels of water-borne disease by supporting community-based interventions to address watershed governance and sanitation, and protecting watershed sources through conserving forest and woodland ecosystem conservations.
